The other side of the digital fence

I’m surprised I haven’t written about this earlier but the next computer I plan on purchasing is a Mac. A MacBook Pro, specifically. My last desktop, a Dell, was purchased back in December 2005. Two computer years is translated into like 10 human years (roughly). My desktop computer is still a fine functioning piece of hardware but it’s time to upgrade. Why a Mac, though?I’m not sure when I decided to get a Mac but I can definitely say that my decision was influenced by the iPod, iTunes, and iLife, as well as the whole aura of Apple. After consulting with other friends that have Macs and finding out software was just as easily available for Macs as they are for PCs, I decided that my next computer would be a Mac. Deciding on a desktop or a laptop was a simple decision. As mentioned, my current desktop is perfectly fine so I’m opting to go for a MacBook Pro because I like the portability. Plus, it’s damned sexy. Now, understanding the life cycle of Apple products, when I decided to get the MBP, it was in mid-life cycle, meaning a better model would come out later. Also, Apple was in the midst of developing Leopard, their new OS. So with that, I decided to wait until the new OS came out and the next generation of the MBP came out. Having had an iPod for several years, I was in-tune with Apple and their tendency to announce new products at major events and rumours have it that a new MBP could be announced at the next Macworld in January. So I’m holding out until then to get my new computer. But I’m excited. First: because it’s a new shiny toy: and Second: it’s going to be a brand new computer experience for me.
