Rome, Italy!!!

Wednesday was probably the longest day I’ve had since going on this trip. When we checked out of the hostel, we had to get on the metro to the bus station to catch a 75-minute bus to Girona airport. After about 90 minutes waiting at the terminal, we got on our 90-minute flight to Rome, Italy. We actually flew in to Ciampino and a train from there to Rome should have been relatively easy. But the bus driver was stupid and what should have been a 30-minute trip turned into almost three hours. Eventually, though, we arrived and checked into our hostel. Dinner followed (pizza in Italy!) and then we went to the bar downstairs from where we were staying.

Thursday morning, we went to Vatican City and saw the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and Saint Paul’s Basilica. I took a ton of photos, as per usual. I had an official italian gelato (tiramasu and stracciatella) on our walk back from Vatican City. We rest a little bit and then we joined this pub crawl tour that our hostel puts on. It was a great time and got completely wasted (first time on this trip). Yesterday, we went to the Coliseum, the Roman forums, and Palatine Hill. Again, we walked a lot. The Coliseum was very cool and I was amazed by the structures. It must have been an amazing sight back in the Roman times when the entire Coliseum was still standing in original form.

Look who’s at the Vatican!

Today, we’re checking out of our hostel and probably going to check out a few more sights (Pantheon) before we leave the city. I’m sitting in the hostel’s bar right now writing this and once I post, I’ve got to check out transportation methods to Florence and Venice. As of this very second, we don’t have anything set up and we check out in less than two hours. Living on the edge!
